Sum Yee Lee studied piano and composition at Western Washington University with a full scholarship. She studies piano performance with Jeffrey Gilliam and composition with Charles Halka and Bruce Hamilton. She also won the gold medals in the Seattle Russian Music Piano Competition and the Sonata Competition. She has also performed as a soloist with the Virtuosi Brunenses Orchestra in Italy under the great conductor Gaddiel Dombrowner.
During 2017 and 2018, Sum Yee was selected to participate in the John Perry International Piano Festival, the Oberlin Piano Festival and the Music Fest Perugia. She has also performed in various master classes with renowned pianist and teachers such as Roberto Plano, Lise de la Salle, Ilana Vered, John Perry. In addition to piano performance, she has experience in teaching piano to different age groups. She instills a love of music to students through interesting and innovative pedagogical methods.
In composition, she has won an award in the WWU Composition Competition. Her works have been performed in COW concerts and recorded by Ensemble Dal Niente. Her recent orchestral work Circulation won the first place in the Western Washington University Composition Competition. The WWU Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will world premier her award-winning work.
